A special place in the museum is dedicated to the chestnut tree (called "breadtree" in the cevennes) and the mulberry tree (the "golden tree" of the silk breeding). Both trees symbolise former life in the Cevennes.

Nearby there are two rivers: the "Gardon de Mialet" and the "Gardon de St. Jean du Gard". They are inhabited by beavers, a sign that the water is of good quality. During summertime you can laze and swim at picturesque places. Along the rivers there are small beaches with sand and cobbles where the water isn't deep. They are very suitable for children. At some places there are deeper pools where the good swimmers can take a dive from the waterfront.. Anglers can enjoy themselves as well, trouts are abound. Near the domain there is a place where you can hire horses. The owner organises special mountain and river trips on horseback.

The steam locomotive of the Cevennes brings you from St. Jean du Gard to Anduze and back. You will discover the marvellous valley of the Gardons. The train stops at the "Bambouseraie": a bamboo plantation with many exotic plants and trees, unique in Europe.
Nearby, in the "valley of the Camisards" you can visit the "Musée du Désert". In the birthplace of the Camisard leader Rolland you will find out all about the
Huguenot history and the important role of the Camisards in the cevennes. The cave of Trabuc is at 2 kms. from here. She is known as one of the nicest caves of the region. You will be surprised by her beautiful lime formations, the underground lake, a water fall and the famous "100.000 soldiers": a mysterious lime formation which can only be seen in this cave.

There are many possibilities for day trips by car. Some interesting routes:
1. The "Gorges du Tarn", the cave "Aven Armand", the cave of "Dargilan" and the mountain fissure of "Bramabiau" are to the north-east of St. Jean du Gard on the "Causses" (lime plateau). They are attainable via the "Corniche des cevennes".
2. On the Mont Aigoual (together with the Mont Lozère the highest point of the cevennes) you can visit an important weather station. An interesting exposition is opened to the public. The panorama of the cevennes is magnificent. The influence of both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean take effect here.
To the south there are nice trips to the famous "Pont du Gard", the picturesque town of Uzès, the ancient city of Nimes, the Camargue with it's horses and bulls, the modern city of Montpellier and the Mediterranean Sea. These are all day tours.
